Melbourne strip clubs or gentlemens clubs are never without controversy. Take alcohol and a highly sexualized space, something is bound to happen. The latest unsavoury thing to happen in the adult entertainment precinct of Melbourne is the stabbing incident involving two men who went on the run and 3 in hospital. One man has been charged with multiple offenses.
The assault at first looked like a random incident but it soon became clear that the man fuelled by rage from something that happened before. So far, it was not clear what started the fracas. According to reports, this was a fight between two groups of men who seemed to know each other. The fight took place at Men’s Gallery on the corner of the notorious King street and Lonsdale during the early hours of Sunday Morning. The fight resulted in the hospitalization of three men – one is reported to be fighting for his life, another sustained some pretty serious injuries and the third man had a simple injury on his arm. Two men who are thought to be the main instigators fled the scene of the crime and are in the wind at the moment.
The Police cordoned the crime scene off, closing Lonsdale Street from King to Spencer streets.
This latest incident once again brought the question of the safety at night in the CBD especially in the adult entertainment precinct.
According to patrons in the club, it was a busy night it being a Saturday night. The clubs along King Street would have been packed. Men’s Gallery could easily have accommodated the 100-150 people. The victims, came from and Lysterfield and were in their early 20s.
Incidents of violence in Melbourne are infrequent. But most seem to happen outside the gentlemens club Melbourne. According to the owner of Men’s Galler, Peter Iwanuik, the altercation happened in the bathroom of the club just before closing time. The club had been packed earlier but by 6am, when the incident happened the club was about to close.
Peter Iwanuik had the place for 30 years and he had never seen anything like that. There are people coming in and out all the time. These weren’t regular patrons or people that anyone would have known. The police have been on the hunt for the other two men who fled as the other three recover from their injuries. No arrests have been made yet.
In an unrelated case, a man was stabbed outside a residence on Point Cook Road close to 14:5pm. One of the men died on the scene and the man who stabbed him was arrested. The 28-year-old Diggers Rest was arrested close by. The police also believe that the stabbing was a result of an altercation between the two men. Incidents of stabbings are few and far in between. Generally, because of , however, they make people in the unspoken rules of “courtesy”area uneasy and make people think that strip clubs are generally unsafe. However, this is a reality of life in the burly bouncers who are there to enforceinner city, not just Melbourne but other big cities like Sydney, Perth and others across the rules. All in all a well run strip club such as bar 20 is not as dangerous as a lot of people have been led to believeglobe . Sometimes you might find a local celebrity or two there enjoying the VIP treatment it has to offer.
