0

Artificial Intelligence is one of the most disruptive technologies employed in today’s world. Many people don’t like it because it eliminates jobs or even whole industries due to the changes it leaves in its wake. However, despite these disruptions, it allows for many things that simply were not possible before.

How to use AI responsibly is something that businesses and ethicists are wrestling with even now. So what are some ways you can use AI safely and responsibly today? Read along as we go through first, what AI is, and some of the ways AI is used in businesses today.

What Is AI?

Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is a field of computer science that concentrated on creating artificially intelligent machines that think, solve, and react as humans do. For these intelligent machines to function, they need to be fed enough information about the world for them to learn from it. They interact with this information to gain intelligence and experience in dealing with the world, just like humans.

The concept of Artificial Intelligence was developed in 1956 when the idea of letting machines solve problems was developed. The idea grew in small increments until the early 2000s when developments in technology allowed the idea to go into widespread practice. Today, AI is in such widespread use, that we could not use today’s technology without it.

AI powers chess games, autonomous cars and trucks, and voice-activated personal assistants. AI is used to streamline tasks, to enhance customer service, or to increase business efficiency. Artificial Intelligence in the workplace is the platform on which most future technologies will rise.

How to Use AI in Business

There are a few ways to use AI in your business. An AI-based recommendation engine is a popular way to use AI, especially in retail and e-commerce related businesses. This engine can help predict consumer actions to show them personalized recommendations based on past purchases, past searches, and customer demographics.

Business Process Automation, or BPA, is the automation of recurring business practices that saves time, money, and effort as well as improving services. BPA can prioritize customer complaints by reading language and determining customer sentiment. BPA can also heavily streamline the employee onboarding process by sending required documents to the new hire, and even recommend training that the employee might need.

Data anonymization is the act of taking large sets of data and removing anything identifying about the owner of that data and many tech analysts have heated discussions about data and AI ethics. This allows companies to build consumer intelligence and get market insights that they otherwise could not. They can use things like location, the size of your business, your business’ industry to better target potential new customers.

Anomaly detection is when an AI can pick out anomalous information from a given data set. What this means is an AI can do things like analyzing failed log-in attempts on a network or even fraud detection. This is possible even with unsupervised AI solutions.

Artificial Intelligence in the Workplace

AI isn’t going anywhere soon. The growth we have today takes advantage of AI in many ways, some of which aren’t obvious. How to use AI, from picking out the best candidate for hire to real-time network monitoring, is in many ways the most disruptive event since the Internet itself.
