In Hong Kong and other places in the world, we often have heard of founders and co-founders regarding startup companies. A single person who should be known as the founder of a startup or a venture would usually have the idea and the resources to implement his idea. Certainly not all the people in this world at some point would be suitable to be a founder of an organization. A typical founder consists of a few attributes. Usually he is visionary, fearless, ambitious, risk taking, humble, and hungry for success. Almost all great and large organization today across the world were established by persons with such similar attributes.
The Founders and Co-Founders: What Are They Up To?
For many Hong Kong (HK) based startups, they may be complicated, and they would have multiple co-founders who founded or started the companies together. For example, when there is a founder and a co-founder, the founder may focus on the Hong Kong local business side and financial side of the startup. The co-founder would take care of the software product development and programming. Other partners or co-founders may be added at a later stage to this startup depending on the development and requirements.
A founder and/or his co-founders based in Hong Kong are expected to be able to create something out of nothing, or create something out of the ordinary. In the process of making a successful business, they are expected do things quite differently or simply do those abnormal things. They are expected to grow a business or take a business to its next level through many experiments whether they are successful experiments or failed experiments. They are certainly not afraid of failing for the first time, second time, and more, as long as they believe they would make it through to the end.
The founder and co-founders do not usually start as leaders. But they would have to regularly go through one challenge after another. During the process of taking the team towards building some successful products, they gradually learn to become leaders, even though there are always some bumping roads in between.
Incorporation – Ready or Not?
Hong Kong company formation is not a difficult process, even though it involves many steps and documentation work. To protect against the financial aspect of each person (i.e. the founder, co-founder, and all other partners), the startup should be incorporated in the early stage. With the startup properly and legally registered, it is the first requirement to accept any investment for future angel investors or venture capitalists.
